Arnside
A seaside village on the estuary of the River Kent, in South Cumbria close to the Lancashire Border.
The beach at Arnside is sandy and there are good views across the estuary to Grange and the foothills of the Lake District beyond. The seafront view is however dominated by the Arnside Viaduct, a 51 span structure carrying the Carnforth and Whitehaven Line that is still in use and was renovated in 2010/11.
Following the coastline southwards the village houses give way to small, limestone cliffs with numerous fossils easily found. Further on the Kent estuary flows into Morecambe Bay.
Arnside Pier
Rebuilt by Arnside Parish Council. 1983/84 at a cost of £25,000. The money was raised by public subscription and the work was grant-aided by:
