Epping Forest

The Forest, which covers 6,000 acres and stretches from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex, is the greatest open space in the London region. It's a spectacular resource for people and animals that allows visitors to explore the beautiful grasslands, majestic beech woods, gaze deep into its ponds, and listen to the birds just a few miles from central London. Queen Victoria dedicated it “for the enjoyment of my people for ever” under an act passed by Parliament in 1878.
It's eternally popular, too. The Forest welcomes four million walkers, joggers and cyclists each year. There are about 1,500 deer in the Forest; they were originally introduced to satisfy hunting instincts but also provide a wonderful spectacle for visitors on Holyfield Road on Sunday mornings between November and January.
