Cropston Reservoir

Cropston Reservoir is a reservoir to the northwest of Leicester in Leicestershire, England. The reservoir is fed by the River Soar and supplies water to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The reservoir was built in 1874 and enlarged in 1902. It covers an area of 80 hectares and has a capacity of 3.2 million cubic meters. The dam is 33 meters high and impounds a catchment area of 22 square kilometers.
The reservoir is owned and operated by Severn Trent Water. It is used for leisure activities such as fishing, birdwatching and walking. There is a visitor center at the reservoir which provides information about the local environment and wildlife.
