Hartshill Hayes Country Park

A woodland country park outside Nuneaton, with archaeological remains from prehistoric to medieval and industrial.
The woodland is nice with bluebells in season with good paths. The archeaology is quite overgrown and in some places may be dangerous, in particular the early 19th Century manganese mine and early 20th Century diorite pits. An earlier time period is represented by a 9 metre high mound with surrounding ditch which is the remains of the motte of Hartshill Castle. There is also evidence of prehistoric activity in the area as there is the remains of a partially excavated round barrow.
